In a world where fomo and comparisons are a part of our everyday lives, we believe in celebrating the little victories. You don’t need to start a multi-million dollar business or write a best-selling novel to change the world. Sometimes, just hearing someone say, “you did it!” is enough. Founded by two small business owners looking for a creative escape from their creative business, (hi, yes, that’s a real thing) You Did It! is all about bringing a little more happiness into the world. Our podcast shares stories of everyday folks and their proudest moments.
You Did It was born from a slow season, feeling down about where I was at and honestly, looking for a creative hobby. Throw in a talented and fun friend who was looking for something similar, and the rest is history. Samantha Thompson, my good friend and owner of Standard Wax, invited me to join her one night an event in Phoenix. After the event, we started talking about sharing things we are proud of. Eventually our conversation turned into a seed, which we then planted and it grew into a podcast! We had no idea that our small conversation would turn into something we both find a lot of joy doing.
Owning your own creative business is really hard. People think it is wonderful and fun, which it totally is, but there are lots of moments where you ask yourself “how long will we be able to do this?”. Being able to celebrate the little victories in our lives, and not just our professional lives, was something that I truly wasn’t ever really great at doing. I would usually focus on the things I didn’t do or the things that didn’t make me proud. But why? Why spend all of that time in a negative head space where I constantly beat myself up. Why can’t I share more about the things I am proud of and take time to reflect on what makes me so proud? Why shouldn’t I be able to share how cool it is that I was able to try a new recipe and it actually turned out great? Why can’t we spread more love and positivity in this world when right now, it is a messy place? You Did It was the positive outlook that I needed in my life, to remind myself that I am making moves in positive ways every single day. I need to remember those. I need to cling onto them. I need to celebrate them with or without people. As long as I am continuing to be proud of the things I am doing in my life, big or small, I will continue to grow and be the best version of myself. We worked with the talented Lauren Hansen with Lunabear Studios and you know she loves color like we do. After we took these photographs, I remember leaving and feeling so confident. Lauren has this way of encouraging you to be yourself so she can capture who you are as a person.
I hope you get the push you need to shout from the rooftops that you just ran that marathon, that you bought a house, quit your job to try something new, got out of bed when you really just didn’t want to…. I hope that you take some time to realize that what you’re doing is incredible and you deserve to be celebrated. So, if you’re into podcasts, supporting happiness and positivity, or you’re struggling with finding things that you are proud of, I hope you take a listen to You Did It. You can listen to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, or at our website. If you want to chat with us? Fill out this form and let’s share about something you’re really proud of.
This isn’t a perfect podcast, we don’t get paid for it, and we don’t really care how many people listen it… All of this is okay. Because we did it; we started a podcast to share positivity and we are so proud. Oh, and one more thing.. We may or may not be working on some fun gifts for you to share with people you think deserve to hear ‘you did it’! More on that soon.
